In 1991, Chris and Chuck Schwark moved from Florida to northwest Indiana to help run a family plumbing and heating business started by Chris’ father. Chris had been a school bus driver and Chuck had worked in the underground utility trade. Upon moving, they invested in a backhoe and a dump truck for the plumbing company and began conducting residential and commercial utility work. In 1992, Scott Schwark, the oldest son, began working in the family business and had a goal of building a premier underground utility company. In 1998, the youngest son, Shawn Schwark, joined as the business began to grow. The company became more diversified and in 2002, H&G Underground Utilities, L.L.C. was formed. As the company began performing larger scale municipal and private work, the need for a larger facility became apparent. In 2008, H&G Underground Utilities bought and built its own facility at 7 Berkel Drive, where it operates from today. H&G has now become a leader in trenchless and open trench pipe installation throughout northwest Indiana, Michigan, and Illinois.
